Chain React 2019 — Workshops!

Chain React is about bringing people together to learn

One of the things I’m most excited about for Chain React 2019 is the workshops we’ll offer. This year, we’re stoked to offer three full-day React Native workshops for every level of experience.

The workshops take place on July 10, which is the day before the conference. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks will be provided alongside some epic React Native knowledge. Now that we’ve got the critical information out of the way, here’s everything else you need to know.

The 3 workshops are slated for beginners, intermediate, and advanced.

Best For React Native Beginners: React Native Fundamentals

Taught by: Infinite Red Academy

If you’re new to the world of React Native, this should be your go-to workshop. We cover as much as we can, a high-level Q&A, and especially emphasize the core steps of each process, from our experience as software consultants in React Native.

What you’ll learn:

  • Overview of the React and React Native philosophy
  • Foundational React Native concepts that work in the wild
  • Detailed “What to focus on” and “how to” for the day and beyond!

By the end of our workshop, you will have a strong foundation of React Native concepts, and be ready to make progress on a production app, as many of our past students have. You’ll also be armed to enjoy the conference with confidence, and you’ll meet some new friendly faces along the way.

Workshop prerequisites:

  • Basic JavaScript knowledge

Best For Intermediate React Native Developers: Testing In React Native

Taught by: Josh Justice, Software Engineer, Big Nerd Ranch

This workshop is brand new for 2019! It’s worth attending if you’re interested in improving your React Native test suites (who isn’t?). This workshop is selling out fast. If we’re sold out by the time you read this, be sure to ask if you can be on a cancellation list.

What you’ll learn:

  • The best tools for testing React Native
  • Techniques and principles for implementing low-cost, high-value tests in your React Native app

You will get the full benefit of React Native’s speed of iteration so you can ship new features frequently and confidently.

Workshop prerequisites:

  • Familiarity with building and running React Native apps using React Native CLI
  • No testing experience required

Bonus: Check out our recent interview with Josh, where we talk React Native, testing, and the magical “cronut”.

Best For React Native Veterans: Building An AR Store App In One Day

Taught by: Vlad Novick, Developer Advocate, Hasura

The one and only Vlad Novick is teaching a fabulous workshop this year that’s all about AR. This workshop is a great choice for experienced React Native developers who have at least a basic understanding of GraphQL and want to expand their horizons further to the AR field, which is constantly growing.

What you’ll learn:

  • How to develop an AR app in React Native from planning to implementation (need we say more?)

Workshop prerequisites:

  • React Native experience
  • Basic GraphQL knowledge
  • AR capable iOS or Android phone (in case of developing for iOS, it’s also good to have an Apple developer account so you can debug on your phone)
  • Good mood (we will be walking a lot around the room, putting AR objects in the real world)

Learning React Native is better together. We look forward to seeing you all at the conference, and for those of you looking to really up your game, we look forward to seeing you at the workshops!
